My name
is Steve Doucette. Outside of bodybuilding, I work as a statistician
in Ottawa. I grew up in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, and
began training in my brother’s (Greg Doucette) footsteps.
Being 5 years younger, I fed off his experience to bring myself
where I am today.
I've been weightlifting since my mid-teen years, however was
an avid cyclist, swimmer, and triathlete prior to competitive
bodybuilding. During that time, the gym had been part of my
daily routine to keep my body in optimal shape for the events
I took part in. At age 17, I had watched Greg compete in a
number of competitions. I had always followed his lead in
sports, this time it would be bodybuilding. At the time I
don’t think I had trained anything other then bench
press, yet I was always known to be built, and kids at school
would never leave me alone to give them a good flex. But what
better way to get my butt in the gym then to know I would
be competing in the next few months? I had only placed 4th
in my first show, but I loved the feeling of competing.
I then entered university. I must admit, bodybuilding and
university did not go hand in hand. For the first few months,
students were more likely to be found at a keg party then
underneath a squat rack - myself included (obviously not the
optimal lifestyle for a competitive bodybuilder.)
Currently 24 years old, I have put in 2-3 “good”
years of weight training as well as having the most results
in that time. I have placed 1st place in a national drug tested
event as a Junior in September, 2000. I’ve also placed
3rd in the Canadian Powerlifting championships in 2002, and
having just turned senior – am re-climbing the stairs
to the top of my classes against the more experienced bodybuilders.
Last year I have placed 2nd in the lightweight division at
Musclemania Canada, and aim to add numerous titles in both
bodybuilding and powerlifting.
