An emergency
appendectomy, 2 consecutive pregnancies, and depression over
losing my mother to cancer, all within a short 2 year period,
had taken its toll on me.
My petite
4’11” frame now weighed a whopping 170 + lbs!
I didn’t have the desire to do anything or go anywhere,
and chose to hide behind closed doors and forget the world
around me. Within the walls of my sanctuary, I started tuning
in to TSN’s coverage of the Fitness Canada Pageant Series
and got hooked!
Year 2000’s
resolution began with very little money and a tiny home gym
set up in the corner of my kitchen (the house is too small
to fit it in anywhere else). I visited a local Musclemag store
and purchased the Women’s Total Fitness book (which
I call my “bible”) and began studying it. My husband
bought me a subscription to Oxygen magazine for Christmas,
and soon I had all of the tools I needed to make my transformation.
Not having
any gymnastics or sports experience from highschool, I decided
to set my sights on bodybuilding. Without a personal trainer,
coach, nutritionist, gym membership, sponsor, endorsement,
or even a training partner…I decided to enter the 2004
Musclemania National Championships held in Toronto on May
29th! It was the first time I ever stepped out onto a stage
infront of an audience, and I managed to walk away with a
5th place trophy in the Masters Female and a 1st place trophy
in the Novice Female categories.
My advice
to those around me is, “Never underestimate your own
potential!”
