I have a lot of competitions lined up this year. I'm starting the year with the Musclemania Atlantic, then Superbody in Miami, and finally Musclemania World in Hollywood.  I plan on doing a few more in between which I'm undecided on so far.

I've changed my training a bit for this up coming year. I've cut my training frequency to only four days a week and each workout is more intense. Since I'm resting more, I can get away with shorter more intense workouts. I plan to be a little bigger and defined this year.  Last year I experimented with a pre-contest diet that would allow me to weigh more, however it didn't work because I gave up to much definition.  This year my pre-contest diet will be the same diet I've always done and I know it works, for me anyway. I'm training as hard as ever and hopefully I could win big this year.

Personally, I still manage a health club and doing very well. I plan on buying a home at the end of the year. I've also been actively pursing modeling and acting, and with a few jobs under my belt - so far it's coming along well. I have a movie premier in New York City, April 25th, and I've been in a few magazines. Hopefully there'll be a lot more to come.

Musclemania is a fantastic organization and I'm excited and proud to be a true Musclemaniac!

Thanks,

Roger

THE ROAD TO
MUSCLEMANIA WORLD 2006

Week 1 - Squat Training - Click here for Video

I started competitive bodybuilding when I was 16 years old. I entered a small local contest where I placed third out of three guys in the teenage class. That's when I met my coach, George Clark. By the time I was 19 I'd become the AAU Teenage Mr. Connecticut, AAU Teenage Mr. America, and take home two AAU Junior Olympic gold medals for the sport of bodybuilding. I've never touched a steroid in my life, and I'm proud to say that I have the courage to train drug free. I competed in the Musclemania World Championships last year in 2005 where I placed second in the novice men. I take my training very seriously and it has extreme purpose. I can talk all day about how hard I train and what I do, but I figured it would be better if you could see it yourself with the video clip. I plan on making a huge change in the appearance of my physique from last year. Last year I thought I had knee problems more serious than they really were, but with the proper remedies I've eliminated any knee pain and squat HARD. My squatting alone is what I feel can have the most impact on my physique in just one year, not to mention all the other basic compound lifts I do. All the basics, military presses, bench presses, barbell rows, etc. Each workout, for each exercise, I do triple drop sets. I train like I've demonstrated in the video every workout, every day I train. I don't plan on letting up ever until I get from point a to point b. This year, point b for me is the overall novice at the 2006 Musclemania World Championships in Hollywood. After that, point b will be overall open mens on into professional competition. I feel I have the raw ingredients, all I need is the courage. I have the courage. See you in Hollywood.

Week 2 - Leg Extension - Click here for Video

This is another drop set on the leg extension. I start out with a 35lb plate tacked onto the entire stack, rep it out, and immediately drop the weight and continue. When I reach failure, I get help with some forced reps. Leg workouts are hard to get through, but I have a good feeling after each one. Each week I'm using more weight and beating my personal best from the week prior. This concept is key in my preparation for Musclemania Worlds. The only thing that can lift more weight is more muscle, period. And, as the close of my t-shirt explains.....I'm still growing!

Week 3 - Bench Press - Click here for Video

Drop setting on bench press has always been one of my favorite workouts. I always try to keep the form as strict as possible and never bounce the weight to assure myself that when I increase the poundage, it's a legitimate increase. This is another key to success for me in the gym. I only use weights I can handle with proper form and never accept beating my personal best in the gym at the expense of proper form. So when I bench more weight now than I did last month, it's because my chest is really that much stronger, and not because I cheated my way there. In this clip, I'm benching 300 lbs for 10 reps, then immediately drop the weight and keep going until I reach total failure with a light weight.

Week 4 - Military Press - Click here for Video

Military presses are one of the most basic lifts a bodybuilder can do. Again, I'm doing another drop set with standing military presses. I start out with 155 lbs for 10 reps, strict, no bouncing. As quick as I can, I drop the weight and continue until failure. Military presses are just one other "basic" lift I incorporate into my lifting program. If it's hard and heavy, I do it. I firmly believe that this concept is the quickest way to build the most muscle in the shortest period of time possible without steroids. You see, those who take steriods are always bigger and stronger than their natural counterparts. Who cares . I've never been impressed with a person's ability to cheat their way to the top. Make no mistake, win, lose, or draw, natural bodybuilders are the true champions within the sport of bodybuilding and natural bodybuilders are the athletes that make this sport great. Did I mention that I'm STEROID FREE ?

Week 5 - Tricep Extension - Click here for Video

Over the course of the past year I've gotten pretty strong with tricep extensions. In this clip I've tacked a 35 lb plate to the whole weight stack to start the exercise and then I drop from there. Tricep extensions are real easy to do drop sets with because it is so easy to drop the weight by yourself by moving the pin up the weight stack. I usually alternate tricep extensions on different days with close grip bench presses because I can really overload my triceps with the most weight possible with them. In Hollywood, I know I will bring the absolute best physique to the stage that I'm physically capable of, a physique I hope will win. Lots of people would say they train hard, but do they really? In my head, I could always train harder and I never think I'm "already good enough" .
