Musclemania's Newest Pro!!!
After three years of competing in the Musclemania World Championship, finally, my hard work paid off. I got my pro-card! My memory is still fresh… when my very first footstep landed on the soil called “Home of the Brave” and better known in my country as the “Land of the American Dream.” Since I was a child, it was my dream to see America . And, thank God, the Musclemania World Tour came to the Philippines and helped fulfill my dream. But it was not an easy task - there were so many obstacles to overcome. First, I came off a three-year lay off which made me very rusty. I had to prepare at least ten months to be able to dial in my physique. It was a down to the wire preparation. I was really prepared to become the over-all Champion in the 2003 Musclemania Philippines . Defeating contestants taller and bigger than me, it was a tough battle but I came more prepared and sharper and had the biggest heart of them all. Then, I got my ticket to the 2003 Musclemania World Championship. More challenges came my way such as getting a visa to the U.S. , lack of funds, and even lack of training due to difficulty in soliciting sponsors. But my spirit was high, and when my chance came to represent my country in the World Championship, I never looked back. The rest is history. I won the 2003 Musclemania World Championship, Open Lightweight Division. Unfortunately, I came off short to become a “professional” that year - it is my understanding that the ruling of winning the weight class to become a professional did not start until June 2004. Since then, for three consecutive events in Musclemania, I placed 1 st runner-up. It seemed to be a bad break for me, but it only increased my determination to become a professional. I'm not one who will retreat when wounded - I became more brave and courageous! I'm a firm believer of the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”
Then, 2006 came - another year to pursue the illusive pro-card! On June 24, 2006 , I competed in the Musclemania Superbody Championship. Again, for the 4 th time, I placed 1 st runner-up. Then, I said to my self and keep talking and motivating myself I will get next time the Pro Card come November show. So I prepared for the November 18, 2006 , Musclemania World Championship (Open Lightweight Division) held in Universal Studios Hollywood in much harder condition and well focus. But it was another heartbreaking loss for me, placing 1 st runner-up, again. It was a mere one point separating the Champion and me.
A few weeks after the November 18 th competition, I received wonderful news from officials at Musclemania International. They informed me in writing that since I emerged as the June 24 th and November 18 th Superbody and Musclemania World Champions for the Open Lightweight Division, I am now a Musclemania Pro! I couldn't believe my eyes at first and the only word that came into my mouth was “Thank God!” It was a hard-earned, sweet victory! A win is still a win, no matter how it happens, and no matter how it is presented. What I know now is that I must double my effort because I'm entering into the next level. A new challenge, a new struggle, a new motivation!
Since this is 2007, I have more fire in my eyes, and more dedication in dieting and in training. I have a new goal - to be ready to rumble with the giants of the Musclemania Pro Division.
I wish all iron lovers and Musclemaniacs avid readers a happy, new blood-rushing, head-banging workout this year!
“to God be the Glory!”
