Hello fellow bodybuilders and gym rats!!
I'd like to take this chance to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Adam Cohen and I'm from Bangor, Maine. I am a 20 year-old natural bodybuilder and personal trainer and I am also a kinesiology major with an emphases on exercise physiology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have been involved in the wonderful sport of bodybuilding since the middle of high school and have been competing for the past 2 years or so.
Last November, I competed at the Musclemania World Championships in Anaheim, California, where I won the Junior Division. This was only my second Musclemania show. My first one was the New York City show in August. It was really great meeting bodybuilders from all over the globe at the World Championship. It really shows how natural bodybuilding is gaining popularity everywhere. I am planning on competing at the Superbody in Miami, Florida, in June, but until that time I'm just concentrating on putting on some more size and gaining some more muscle quality and maturity. I'm especially enjoying my off-season diet.
My daily routine totally revolves around the gym. Some people say I'm obsessed, but I say that is just a word that undedicated and unmotivated people call those who are driven and goal oriented. My goal is to be the about an hour and a half to two hours a day, 6 days a week. Some would say that this is overtraining to an extreme, but I feel like that word us used by lazy people who just want to do the bare minimum. I believe that if you properly supplement, properly eat and get sufficient rest and calories then there is no reason for anyone to suffer from "overtraining". Alot of people have asked me how I have developed so much muscle maturity at such a young age. I tell them the key to this is lifting in a lower rep range and lifting heavier, as well as doing alot of compound movements. I lift in the lower rep range all the way up through my precontest prep. I feel this is the key to gaining alot of quality density. Alot of guys start lifting lighter and go for more reps when they are dieting to burn more calories, but I say, " Use your cardio and your diet to burn off the fat, but use the weights to build muscle."
I don't have alot of free time away from the gym. I'm either training, training people, or working the front desk. But when I do get my relaxation time I generally enjoy hanging out with my very supportive friends, reading, or spending time with my equally supportive family. Remember, I live in Maine so there isn't that much to do. When I am at school I like to go out and have a good time, but never at the expense of my workout or diet - those are first and foremost in my life. If you want to be the best you can you gotta do the proper things 24-7.
Well, I guess that is it for now. I'll keep everyone posted on what is going on and I will keep writing and posting new pictures periodically. I would like to thank all of the bodybuilding fans out there, especially everyone at Musclemania for maintaining such a professional and high caliber federation. I would also like to thank everyone at the gym and my clients who are always inquisitive and supportive about my bodybuilding aspirations. First and foremost I need to thank my family and friends for being there for me, especially throughout my dieting and precontest prep. Without their support I wouldn't be where I am today.
Take care everybody, train hard and i will talk to you soon.
Adam
